Our Process

Veterinarians to the Rescue follows a stringent process in order to ensure operational transparency for all cases. This transparency allows for greater confidence from our donors and more clarity and efficiency for those in need.

Ultimately, it is VTTR’s mission to reduce the number of economic euthanasias for small animals that are performed. By following this four step process and maintaining transparency throughout, VTTR can continue to realize its mission.

First Contact

VTTR can be contacted directly with requests to support a case. Given the different groups VTTR serves, these contacts typically follow one of two paths.

For members of the general public, the contact information will typically be provided by their primary veterinarian or an emergency veterinary clinic. VTTR has worked with numerous local veterinary clinics to provide information on our services. These clinics have been made aware that VTTR offers another option should economic euthanasia be presented as an option to a pet owner. 

For organizations and animal shelters, liaison officers at each have been appointed and are to contact VTTR directly with the request.

Case Review

Upon receipt of the case details, each case is individually reviewed in order to determine eligibility. Eligibility is determined based on financial need, urgency of the treatment, operation, or service in regards to end-of-life decisions, and post-treatment prognosis.

Service Partnership

Once VTTR has determined the level of assistance available for the case, both financially and from a resource perspective, a local partnering veterinary practice is contacted and selected to complete the treatment or operation.  VTTR has in-house capabilities for its service offerings. VTTR coordinates the treatment, operation, or service and handles all communications and transportation.

Clearly Defined Next Steps

Once the treatment, operation, or service is complete the next steps are clearly defined and agreed upon by all parties.

For members of the general public, the pet is returned to the owner(s). Records are transferred back to the referring veterinarian. VTTR does not maintain a client base and only provides ad-hoc treatments, operations, and/or services.

For organizations, VTTR continues to support the animal as a forever-home is being sought. Typically, this is realized through the service offerings of VTTR.
